Equality & Diversity
This is a bespoke in-house face to face training course on Equality & Diversity.
The aim of this course is to provide learners with an understanding of some of the prominent equality and diversity issues. This would enable them to identify discriminatory practices and better equip them to be able to implement good practice.
The course explores the concepts of equality, diversity, equity, rights, values and beliefs. It considers different types of discrimination (overt, covert, abuse, labelling, stereotyping) and the effect that it could have on the individual in terms of their self- identity and self-esteem. It looks at how discrimination can lead to marginalisation and changes in behaviour. It examines how to empower and offer opportunity.
The course will enable learners to understand the different types of prejudice and discrimination which can affect children and young people in relation to protected characteristics such as:
- Race & ethnicity
- Religion or belief
- Disability
- Sexuality
- Gender
- Gender Identity
Information regarding legislation will be incorporated.
The course will explore how learners own socialisation and beliefs could impact on the care given to young people and the difference between non-discriminatory practice and anti-discriminatory practice.
It will discuss how to promote diversity, positive identity and potential through individualised care and how to ensure equality and diversity is embedded within their practice.
Learners will consider, if appropriate, how they can offer appropriate diet, clothing, skin and hair care for all children in their care and how they could improve access to services.
The course will identify where learners can access further support.
The course:
The training session is bespoke and therefore designed to meet your needs. The session takes into account the different learning styles of participants and has aspects that are auditory, visual and kinaesthetic. The course can contain a combination of slides, videos, interactive exercises and case studies. Participants are encouraged to make use of the training pack to help with their learning.

By the end of the course learners should be able to:
- Explain the Concepts of Equality, Diversity and Rights in relation to young people in their care
- Discuss discriminatory Practice and its potential effect on young people
- Demonstrate how Anti-Discriminatory Practice is promoted within the home setting
- Discuss difficulties that may arise when implementing anti-discriminatory practice in health and social care settings.
- Analyse ways of overcoming difficulties that may occur when implementing anti-discriminatory practice.
- Demonstrate how you support and encourage children and young people to develop skills to deal with discrimination, enhance self-worth and make a positive contribution

Courses cancelled 15-29 days before the course date will incur a 50% charge.
Courses cancelled 14 days or less before the course date will charged the full course fee.
