• Play Therapy Awareness

    This is a bespoke face to face training course on Play Therapy Awareness.

    Play is essential for the health, wellbeing and development of children and a child’s right to play is enshrined by a UN convention.

    The course looks at different types of play and the benefits they bring. It compares play, play work, filial play, theraplay and play therapy.

    Research shows that 20% of young people in a general population have a psychological problem and that around 70% can be helped by psychological therapies such as play therapy.

    However looked after young people have a higher incidence of mental health problems than the general population and therefore may be more likely to need additional support.

    The course has many opportunities for active learning, allowing participants time to try out activities and the skills needed to support young people.

    The course considers reasons why a young person may be referred for play therapy such as having been neglected or displaying inappropriate behaviour.

    Discussion will take place about normal play and what could be cause for concern.

    The play therapy process is explored what to expect before and during play therapy.

    The course:

    The training session is bespoke and therefore designed to meet your needs. The session takes into account the different learning styles of participants and has aspects that are auditory, visual and kinaesthetic. The course can contain a combination of slides, videos, interactive exercises and case studies. Participants are encouraged to make use of the training pack to help with their learning.

    By the end of the course Participants should be able to:

    • Explain why young people need the opportunity to play and identify strategies to achieve this
    • Describe the difference between play, play work, filial play, theraplay and play therapy.
    • Understand reasons why a child may have been referred for play therapy
    • Analyse causes for concern and when and where to access support
    • Understand the play therapy process and how to support the young person This

    Courses cancelled more than 30 days before the course date will incur no costs if cancelled.
    Courses cancelled 15-29 days before the course date will incur a 50% charge.
    Courses cancelled 14 days or less before the course date will charged the full course fee.
